{"id":1425,"date":"2018-04-03T07:29:52","date_gmt":"2018-04-03T07:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wozazim.org\/?p=1425"},"modified":"2018-04-03T07:32:47","modified_gmt":"2018-04-03T07:32:47","slug":"woza-delivers-open-letter-to-mbeki-at-south-african-embassy-in-harare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wozazim.org\/?p=1425","title":{"rendered":"WOZA delivers open letter to Mbeki at South African Embassy in Harare"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content\">&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 200 members of Women and Men of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA\/MOZA) delivered an open letter to President Thabo Mbeki at the South African Embassy in Harare this morning. The letter was pressing for a genuine agenda to the South African mediated-talks that is more transparent, inclusive and addresses socio-economic issues.<\/p>\n<p>WOZA gathered at the Embassy in suburban Harare today to highlight the unfairness of talks that only involve politicians who will be not be addressing issues of social justice \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcBread and Roses\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Zimbabweans need. It was also to pressure for the inclusion of voices at the negotiating table that will raise socio-economic issues \u00e2\u20ac\u201c issues at the heart of ordinary Zimbabweans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wozazim.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/06\/embassy-demo.jpg\" title=\"WOZA women outside South African Embassy, Harare, 25 June 2007\" alt=\"WOZA women outside South African Embassy, Harare, 25 June 2007\" align=\"left\" height=\"195\" width=\"290\" \/>When the group arrived, they affixed placards and material strips carrying their messages to the fence. Some of the messages read \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThe talks should be about Bread and Roses\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcall Zimbabweans have views \u2013 lets all talk about talks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcpoliticians don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t cut deals in our name\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst the peaceful group gathered outside the gates to the Embassy, male and female representatives went inside to deliver WOZA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s open letter, as well as their vision for a new Zimbabwe and a plan on how to get there through the People\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Charter and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc10 Steps to a New Zimbabwe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. Embassy staff received the letter, and having delivered their message, the group dispersed. There have been no reports of arrests since then.<\/p>\n<p>Please see below for a copy of the open letter.
